A lot of my friends had very "friendly" dogs that would either steal my food, hump my leg or bite me. I was really scared of dogs until I was about 10 years old. Small ones are the worst.
Hooray...now all my animation assignments are done!

Phobia
This week's illustration. I hate rats. Especially sewer rats. I feel a little sick just thinking about them.
Also, I used to work in an animal lab (a friendly one... at a university... no cruel tests). I had to help clean out the rat cages sometimes. THey told me if you picked up the rats by their tail, the rats couldn't bite you. Wrong. The phobia started after that.
the next victim
This is th character for my next animation assignment. She's likes girls a lot, but hasn't realized she's a lesbian yet. (I am using a piece of dialogue from "Election") . I don't know why I decided to put out her hand like that...it's ugly.

Retro
Hula is retro...right?
Here you go Mark...she has a leg now and tangents revised. (Actually, it's still there kind of...but I have to start animating now or I will most likely die before next tuesday) Still have some colouring issues though. Also, I would advise to not look up close at this image. It ain't pretty.

before and after
Okay okay...I'll try not to talk about it that much in class, but this weekend was amazing. Short version of the story: I went to L.A. with Lauren and Sarah for the Pixar Day of the Screenwriting Expo. Through a combonation of luck and the kindness of Lauren and Sarah's friend, Mark Walton, we also got to meet James Baxter and have lunch with Andreas Deja, not to mention all the other extremely talented people I also got to chat with.
Still in shock.

Belleville Rembrandt
This week's animation class illustration was to design a character in the "Triplets of Belleville" style. I decided to caricature (sp?) Rembrandt because his nose kind of reminds me of the Mafia boss in the movie. Deep, I know. And yes, this pose/ colouring is ripped directly out one of his self portaits.

ancient - please note my ability to spell
ok, I didn't go into school today because I figured I would finish up some stuff from home, and take care of some errands that I know I won't have time to do starting this week. Unfortunately, I left my stuff for layout at school, and finished everything else, so I tried colouring this sucker again. I don't think I made any development, from where I left off last time, but I don't have time/patience to do more.
Colouring is kind of boring. Unless it's with real paint, or something else fun like pastels, markers, pencil crayons, etc. Basically, anything but the computer.

Anicient
-Every morning Mrs. O'Sullivan would go sit in the park. At this point, all the rats would scurry around her feet, waiting for her to keel over so they could all have a nice lunch.-
This is the first weekly illustration for animation class. I was going to colour it, but I got lazy before I was half done, so maybe I'll do that some other time.
Hooray! It's Saturday morning and I get to go to school now. Yay!

wtf?
This is a birthday card I made for my dear friend Gordon.
He turned 23 today.
Congratulations Gordon.

Congratulations Gordon.
I realize the image doesn't really scream "Happy Birthday"... I drew some stick figures wearing party hats on the inside.

is it okay now?
Alright...
I changed the background. The template still looks wrong on my mac, but at least I can see the text now. It seems to work ok on both our pcs. I'm not sure why it would display differently on different computers, but if anybody knows the reason, please let me know so I can fix it. I don't really know much about html, so I'm doing everything by trial and error. lalalala.

last of the cards
Here's the last of the birthday cards.
It was for my sister, who just turned 21. Way too old to be displaying this kind of behaviour.
(Actually, I drew the picture of the girl on the beach and then decided to turn it into a birthday card. I wasn't sure how to relate the picture of a child playing in the sand to turning 21, so I just added in some poop. Basically there are some things that are universally funny, and poop is one of them. Other things that fall into this category are fart jokes and men dressing up as women.)

Animals are cute
These are some birthday cards I made recently. The subject matter is inspired by a recent trip to Tofino. It was really incredible up there. We were with my parents, so we got to do the touristy stuff like sea kyaking and whale watching.
Wild life sightings report: grey whale, humpback whale, sea otters, seal, starfish, anemone, murres, some other things that live in the ocean, bald eagles and some seagulls.
I decided to feature the otters. Why? because they are the cutest.
Speaking of sea otters.... I took my parents to the aquarium while they were in Vancouver, and my dad and I were watching a sea otter playing with a pool noodle. Then I hear this kid say, "is that it's penis," and I was thinking to myself, "no, stupid. That's a pool noodle." But then the sea otter faced me and I realized that the kid wasn't really that stupid. The sea otter was definitely having a sexual encounter with the pool noodle, and continued to do so the whole time the beluga show was going on next door.
I decided not to feature that scene on the birthday card for my grandfather. The sea otters in Tofino appeared to be very chaste.
There is one more card that belongs with this post, but I didn't get a chance to scan. Hopefully my sister will be so kind to scan it and e-mail me the file.

Jumping on the pirate bandwagon
Here are some things that are re-posts from the class blog. I'll post some more new stuff soon.
I thought it was pretty amazing how many people posted pirate stuff after the movie came out.
Here's my contirbution to the craze. Next time you watch "Dead Man's Chest" look carefully, because the bunny and beaver have difficult-to-see cameos.

Oh Mother.
My parents are in town this week.
My mom created this lovely image.
I know it's dificult to believe that she's never used a wacom tablet before because of the technical and artistic geius of this piece, but it's true.
She thinks the best one is the one "with the creepy mouth."
Yep.
My favourite is the one with a slice of bread head. It reminds me of Shokupanman, "Anpanman's closest and most handsome superhero friend. His head is a slice of white bread and he is the patron superman of school lunches. Shokupanman's secret headquarters is deep inside of Toaster Mountain. " If you are not familiar with Anpanman, you should go here:

The Graduate
I watched The Graduate tonight for the first time in a while. I'd forgotten why I love this moive so much.
I did a couple of tone studies during it. I'm just trying to used to markers a bit. The last is inspired by Mrs. Robinson of course, although she looks a tad young.
I wanted to do the bit where Ben and Elaine are escaping from the church, and he's swing the cross at people, but I was getting antsy.

Another of our kind
beach kids
Here's some kiddies from the beach today...it's like they didn't even know I was watching them.
The little boy was really into dancing around with his pail. In real life, both his arms are the same length, although you'd never be able to tell from the sketch.
I coloured them when I got home.
The pinup type girl was my first experiment with watercolour and brush pen this morning...a little bit murkey....I am like the undisciplined monkey, who sometimes cannot wait for the paint to dry before applying a new colour. Apparently patience really is a virtue.

Pinup???
It's been a little while since I posted...
The topic for the class blog this week was pinups. I guess this isn't exactly a pinup, so I'll post it here instead of there. (you can see the pinups at www.class-of-2007.blogspot.com . Participation in the weekly sketch activity is at a very low point right now.)
